About Danielle Stammers
Hi, I’m Danielle – but most of the kids call me Dani because it’s just easier to say!
Here's a little about me to help you get a sense of who I am, how I work and how I might be able to best support your child and family. I am a qualified counsellor, with a special interest in working with children and families. I have over 20 years' experience in supporting little ones all the way through to teens with big emotions, behaviours, feelings and worries using play, creative and expressive arts and movement.
I'm passionate about helping kids and families who feel stuck by providing a safe space for them to share their story, their thoughts, their feelings and their processes . Maybe it’s anxiety that makes getting to school feel overwhelming. Maybe it’s behavioural struggles that are communicating they have unmet needs. Maybe it’s memories from a frightening event that feel they need support to process. I love supporting kids as they find their way through these challenges, and seeing that ripple out to the whole family when things start to shift.
As a mum to three incredible neuro-divergent kids, and someone who knows firsthand what it feels like to be an anxious child with a highly sensitive nervous system, my lived experience gives me an understanding for what your child—and you as a parent—might be feeling. I’ve seen the power of counselling and therapeutic play to help kids grow, build confidence, and make real, lasting changes.
Your child is unique, and what worked for me might not work for them, but I can imagine how they (and you) might be feeling. I have empathy for what the families I meet are going through, and I have seen counselling and play therapy help kids make big changes in their lives.
Play is important, but I want to give your child skills, too. We’re not just going to play Uno and never talk about what is troubling them. It’s important to me that children’s therapy is as sophisticated and effective as what adults get. I hope your child leaves therapy with tools they can use to handle anxiety and stress right now and as they grow up, long after therapy has ended.
My approach is playful and creative (there’s a lot of imaginative play and crafting involved) but it’s also based on research. Kids spend time talking and playing. I use a form of therapy called CBT and Affirming Positive Behavioural therapy (as well as the therapeutic play) to help children learn coping skills and find solutions to problems.
I have over 20 years of experience working with children, from early childhood through to teens. Parenting and working with children with Autism, ADHD, medical needs, and disability has given me a front-row seat to the beauty, the challenges, and the resilience that comes with embracing diversity.
While we have fun, our work here is serious: to equip kids with real tools to manage anxiety, stress, and big feelings now and into the future.
My passion is helping:
-
Anxious and sensitive kids
-
Preteen and tween girls managing strong emotions
-
Children whose need support surrounding their behaviour and anxiety, facing traumatic or stressful life events
-

Above all, I believe in celebrating each child's uniqueness and walking alongside them with compassion, creativity, and trust. This isn’t just a job to me—it’s my heart’s work.
